Acurizal is a private reserve created by the Ecotropica foundation in 1997 to support the conservation of the nearby Pantanal National Park. It comprises more than 13.000 hectares of protected area in the Serra do Amolar mountainrange showing it visitors an unique wildlife experience with species, including the Azara´s Night Monkey and the Chacoan Titi Monkey that can only be found here. In addition it´s one of the few regions in the Pantanal where the giant water lilies can be found.
The reserve offers basic but comfortable accommodation with only 4 rooms equipped with private bathroom and air conditioning. Due to its remote location (5 hrs by boat from Corumba) there is no phone connection, and the electricity is supplied by a generator between 12:00 to 15:00 and 18:00 to 05:00. There is a free wifi (though limited) connection available.
The excursions on location are adapted according your wishes but normally consist of hikes through its diverse landscape of savannah, forests and elevated grounds. Furthermore boat excursions are offered to cover a wider area and to visit one of the unique crystal clear water streams that can only be found in this region.
Nowadays the area is managed by the Homem Pantaneiro Institute (´Pantanal Man Institute´) and NGO with has a missiong to “Preserve and conserve the Pantanal, its stories and promote the generation of knowledge for development and replication of innovative and exemplary environmental technologies”.
All the revenue generated by people staying at the reserve will be used directly for protection and conservation activities in the area.
