Day 1 Arrival at the Alta Floresta / Cristalino Jungle Lodge
Arrival in Alta Floresta, pick up and transfer to Cristalino Jungle Lodge. Upon arrival, there will be an introduction to the lodge and to your accommodations. Library and maps are available. (D)
Spend day 2 at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge
In the morning, hike towards the 50 meter Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found. (BLD)
Spend day 3 at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge
In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House - a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South american Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Collared Peccary (Pecari tajacu), White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), the Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactylaand) and the Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river. (BLD)
Day 4 Departure from the Cristalino Jungle Lodge to Pousada do Rio Mutum
Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba. Reception upon arrival at the Cuiabá airport by a bilingual guide. Transfer to Pousada do Rio Mutum passing through the small village of Mimoso, where Mal. Candido Rondon was born. On the way, observation of many kind of birds, small mammals and tipical landscapes. The transfer takes about 3 hours and a half. After check-in, introduction to the lodge and area around it. In the evening a delicious piranha soup is served just before dinner. After dinner, introduction to the activities of the following days. Overnight. (B,L,D)
Spend day 5 at the Pousada do Rio Mutum
After breakfast, horseback trail riding through the woods, up to the edge of the Siá Mariana bay. During the whole year, a big variety of birds, animals and reptiles can be observed. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, boat ride for a photographic safari in the pristine Mutum River, where it’s possible to see giant otters, stingrays and huge schools of small fish. At the Mutum river banks, a large variety of birds can be observed. Return to the lodge for dinner, then nocturnal animal spotting by jeep in the lodge surrounding area. Overnight. (B,L,D)
Spend day 6 at the Pousada do Rio Mutum
After breakfast, ecological walk through the jungle and open fields to observe the wildlife. Undeniably, Pantanal is one of the world’s best hot spots for birdwatching. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, boat trip down the Mutum river banks, Siá Mariana bay and Chacororé bay. Return by boat to the lodge, stopping to see the sunset at the Siá Mariana bay and do piranha fishing*. In the evening, cayman feeding with the piranhas fished from Siá Mariana bay and nocturnal animals spotting. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
*According to the law, fishing is forbidden from October to March.
Day 7 Departure from Pousada do Rio Mutum to Cuiaba
Wake up early (4:30am) to go Canoeing in the Mutum river to observe the sunrise and the beauty of wildlife at the break of dawn in the Pantanal. Return to the lodge, breakfast and check-out. Transfer to the Cuiabá airport. (B)

Spend day 4 at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge
Boat trip in the morning and hike the “Sierra Trail”: a site with a low, drier and deciduous type of forest. This trail has beautiful viewpoints since it is located in a hilly landscape. Orchids are often found in this area. In the afternoon hike in the Teles Pires island, a place where parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood storks can be seen. Sunset at this place is great for photography. (B,L,D)
Spend day 5 at the Cristalino Jungle Lodge
Hike the Caja Trail, an excellent site for seeing primates who feed on the caja fruit (Spondias mombin), including the Brown Capuchin Monkey (Cebus apella) and the rare Red-nosed Saki Monkey (Chiropotes albinasus). In the afternoon, walk the Scenery Trail - one of the most beautiful trails in the reserve. It goes through a hilly landscape and often offers fascinating views. The forest here is very rich in bromeliads, heliconias and orchids. Return by sunset. (BLD)
Day 6 Departure from Cristalino Jungle Lodge to Pousada Pouso Alegre
Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba. Arrival in Cuiaba, where you'll be welcomed by your English speaking guide. Transfer to Pouso Alegre, located in the Pantanal (about 3 hrs drive). Arrival and check-in in the afternoon. Evening at leisure. Overnight. (B,L,D)
Spend day 7 at the Pouso Alegre
Urutu trail: 2km trekking among wood islands, where it is likely to see monkeys, agoutis and several bird species. Don’t forget your hat, water, insect repellent. Spotlighting by car allows the spotting of caimans, capybaras, jabirus in their nest, black-crowned night-herons and pauraque nightjars. Best during very dark nights, when it is also possible to see foxes, racoons, deer and more. Overnight. (B,L,D)
Spend day 8 at the Pouso Alegre
Full day dedicated to observing the Pantanal´s flora and fauna found on the Pouso Alegre private reserve. After an early breakfast, drive along a private dirt road to Bento Gomes River; canoe trip to spot aquatic wildlife, birds, and flora. Nature walk through the woods to learn more about the local environment. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, the guide will lead you on a jeep safari exploring the forest and grassland in search of wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner; nocturnal safari by car in search for more wildlife. (B,L,D)
Day 9 Departure from Pouso Alegre to Hotel Porto Jofre (110 km/3 hrs)
After breakfast the last morning excursion followed by lunch. In the early afternoon we continue our trip deeper into the Pantanal to reach Hotel Porto Jofre. Arrive at the end of the afternoon. If time permits we walk through the surroundings of the lodge and the nearby lake where the Victoria Reggia water lily can be observed. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Spend day 10 & 11 at the Hotel Porto Jofre
Full day boat rides on the Cuiaba river. Boat trips provide an excellent opportunity to view giant river otters up-close. This is often a highlight of visitors’ trips to Brazil. In the dry season, we often see jaguars on the exposed beaches of the rivers – a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Other wildlife commonly seen on the river are capybara and caiman. Birds frequently encountered include kingfishers, egrets, storks, herons and terns. End of the afternoon return to the lodge. Overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 12 departure from Hotel Porto Jofre to Cuiaba (250 km/6 hrs)
After breakfast transfer back to Cuiaba Airport in time for your domestic flight out. (B)
